Pearl Inspection Record

The "Inspection Certificate No." listed on your guarantee refers to the certificate number issued by the Pearl Research Institute (Taito-ku, Tokyo). Your pearls have undergone identification testing at the institute, with the following results:

  • Identified as Akoya cultured pearls
  • Tests revealed no evidence of artificial coloring or toning

Primary inspection methods: magnified visual inspection, ultrasonic testing, spectral analysis, and UV fluorescence testing.

Your pearls have been examined by the Institute and identified as Akoya cultured pearls, with no indications of artificial colour modification found. We do not dye them. That is why we are always searching.

If one were to color pearls, neither the region of origin nor the production year would matter, as dyeing would make every pearl the same color.

IRIS・SPIRA does not engage in toning or artificial coloring. Therefore, we cannot manufacture a color. We can only search for pearls that already possess these colors.

From Uwajima in Ehime to Kumamoto and Nagasaki—the pearls used for a single strand are gathered from multiple regions. Sometimes, pearls born in the same year are not sufficient in number to create a matching set, in which case we combine them with pearls from the previous year or earlier.

For this reason, we cannot tell you exactly which sea or which year every single pearl was born. The inability to specify this is the proof that they are not dyed.

We simply string together the colors as nature intended. We have been doing this since 1999.

Pearl Care

Akoya pearls are organic gemstones created by mollusks. They must be handled differently than hard stones.

  • After wearing, wipe with a soft cloth. Sweat and sebum can gradually cloud the luster of pearls. Wipe gently with a dry cloth.
  • Keep perfumes, cosmetics, and hair products away from your pearls. It is best to put on your pearls last, only after you have finished getting ready.
  • When storing, keep them separate from other jewelry. Pearls are easily scratched and can be damaged by contact with metal fittings or hard gemstones.
  • Do not use ultrasonic cleaners or bleach. These will damage the layers of the pearl.
  • Store in a place with low humidity. However, avoid extreme dryness as well.
  • We use white vinyl-coated wire for our strands. It is resistant to stretching and snapping; with normal use, there is no need for restringing for about five years. Please contact us if you notice gaps forming between the pearls.
